INCENSE CEDAR (Libocedrus descurrens)
Used by cultures throughout the world, since ancient times, for
both medicinal and spiritual purposes. Native peoples of North
America burn cedar while praying, the prayers rising on the smoke
and being carried to the Creator. Cedar smoke purifies an area,
banishes nightmares, and may be used in sweat lodges to help release
heavy emotional energies.
Incense Cedar is the most pleasant
and fragrant smelling of all the worlds Cedars, and earns its
name. This
tree species mostly grows native in North America along the narrow
range
area of Northern California and Oregon.
Used medicinally as an aromatic, astringent, and diuretic.
Cedar has been used in the treatment of fevers, rheumatism, dropsy,
coughs, scurvy, and as an emmenagogue.
